On rejection

I've been getting a lot of rejection letters and e-mails lately and have grown to hate this standard reason why they didn't interview me:

"It is our top priority to select a candidate who best matches the skills and experience required to excel in this position. While we were impressed with your qualifications, after careful consideration we have decided to pursue other options for this position."

Two reasons it's been driving me nuts. 1.) If you were impressed, why wasn't I interviewed? 2.) Some of these jobs have job descriptions which exactly match my skills and experience. So again, why wasn't I interviewed?

It makes no sense.

A few rejections have been pretty nice. A couple rejection e-mails from people with whom I had interviewed asked for my permission to pass on my resume to other people. Another decided to promote from within but strongly encouraged me to apply again when another position became available.

But no rejection has made me feel good.

This job search thing is so degrading sometimes.
