Like you and me, most aren't "saints"

I hate people that treat those in the armed forces like they are saints. Let me tell you they aren't. I'm not saying to not support the troops. It isn't their fault they're in a war someone else started. But I hate people who think Iraq War vets deserve to get everything for free. I'm sorry. My brother is an Iraq War vet, and I would be very wary of giving him anything for free. He is a scammer. And a jerk on top of that.

There are some great service people out there that aren't in it for the glory. They respectfully/humbly decline the gifts and money that are thrown at them. Those are the men and women I respect. It's like the hero who saves someone from a burning house who refuses to talk about it. That is real heroism.

Now I'm not talking about the donations of stuff that they need, like the silly string donations, money to offset costs of an disabling injury, or renovations of a a disabled vet's home to make it accessible. And I'm not talking about the donations of nominal items such as magazines and cookies. I'm talking about the free trips, free houses, free tickets to the Super Bowl, etc., etc.

It pisses me off that I'm paying the taxes that pay their paychecks and then some of them (not all) expect me to give them more. And then it always bugs me that there are lay people who think service people should get more just because they are in the armed services. If we had drafted services, I would agree, but we don't. We are volunteer. They CHOSE to be in the armed services. It is their JOB. I don't expect people to give me bunches of free stuff just because I'm doing my job. They shouldn't either. I wish someone would build me a brand new house for free. But it ain't going to happen.

People, just give service men and women our thanks. Most of them don't need anything else.
